A pre praid american express card?
I heard you can get it at a grocery store?
Do I have to sign anything or what not? or can I just give them money to put in it , like they do for gift cards?

Anyone else have trouble redeeming visa or american express gift cards?
For the past two years I have been unemployed and before that I was working a low paying minimum wage job.
To help me out my mother gets me Visa gift cards,American Express gift cards, gas station gift cards and sometimes starbucks or restaurant gift cards.
She has been getting me these gift cards since 2006.
These types of gift cards can be purchased at major drug and grocery stores such as Kroger, Safeway, Vons, Ralphs, CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid.
For years I have never had a problem using a Visa gift card or American Express gift card anywhere.
I have used them at several websites, restuarants and fast food places.
Over the past year I have still never had a problem.
But unfortunatley over the past year there have been some rare instances where independant non-chain restuarants and fast food places will refuse to accept a visa gift card or american express card for payment.
This really upsets me! These Visa and American Express gift cards are like cash and should be accepted at any brick and morter establishment that accepts Visa and American Express. While 90-95% of the non-chain fast food and restaurants are willing to accpet these gift cards there are a few places that stubbornly will not accept these gift cards. I don’t understand why?
Back in May 2008 I went to a small italian cafe for dinner. When the check came I put an American Express gift card on the tray with the bill. When the waiter walked over and picked up the tray he said we don’t accept American Express gift cards. I asked to speek to the manager. The manager lied to me and said that if they try to swipe the American Express gift card in their credit card terminal that I won’t work. I told them to try it out. They swiped my American Express gift card and were unhappy about it. The manager told me that kids are making phoney Visa and American Express gift cards that get authoirized in their credit card machine and the restuarant doesn’t get paid.
I knew this was some sort of lie.
In July 2009 I went into a small take out style pizza shop that was independantly owned. I ordered two slices and pizza, small salad and a soda. The owner mans the front cash register. I hand a Visa gift card to the owner to pay for my lunch. The owner says to me I don’t think this Visa gift card works here. He asked me if it was a real Visa card or not. I told him to swipe the Visa gift card and it worked. He said he is worried that he won’t get paid by the credit card company.
A year later which happened to be tonight Wednessday July 7th,2010 I went to an independant non-chain restuarant which was a coffee shop type restuarant( like a Cocos, Freindlys, Dennys) type place. When the bill came and I put a Visa gift card that my mom just gave me last week on the tray the waitress said sorry we don’t accept Visa gift cards or American Express gift cards.
I asked to speak to the manager. He was very rude and told me that his restuarant has had problems with Visa gift cards and American Express gift cards in the past. He siad that is our policy sur! I explained to him that a Visa or American Express gift card is like cash and will work in the restuarants credit card terminal. He refused to listen to me and I was unable to get any further. I argued and told the manager that I have no cash or other credit/debit cards in my wallet. He said he will call the police on me even though I had a Visa Gift card with cash loaded on it.
Why is this happening with family owned merchants? A few family and independant merchants refuse Visa Gift cards as well as American Express gift cards. Will this trent grow? Is there anything we as the consumer can do to protect ourselves? How is refusing a Visa Gift Card or American Express gift card different than saying no Bank of America or Chase Visa cards accepted?

Are those prepaid master and visa cards acceptable in Mexico?
The gift card ones you buy at checkout at the grocery store…
Some of them say good wherever visa/mastercard accepted but the ones for American Express/discover say good at U.S. locations only.

I need gift ideas for the family I adopted, 3 children ages 6, 5, and 3?
The company I work for has adopted a family for x~mas this year with 3 children. A little boy age 6, a little girl age 5, and a little boy age 3. We have gathered around $600 for gifts alone from our employees and want to spend $200 on each child. The company bought gift cards for groceries for the parents and a few gifts for them as well. Me and one of the other employees are in charge of doing the gift shopping. I need ideas of what children these ages are into and what they want the most. I believe the company has bought them clothes and jackets and such so we are just shopping for toys. I dont have any children so I have no idea what to shop for. What are some of the hott toys on the market right now? We would like to buy a few gifts not just one large one for each child, so maybe somethings around the $40- $50 range so we can get them at least 4 each.

What are some more items i can raffle off to support my mission trip?
All the tickets are going to cost $1. Im already going to raffle off some iTunes gift cards and a movie theatre gift card for 2 people to go to the local movie theatre. What else can i raffle off? And what would be good items to ask businesses to donate for the raffle?
Im going to either do the raffle at a yard sale at my church or at the local grocery store.

MATH PROBLEM INVOLVING CREDIT CARD REWARDS HELP PLEASE!!?
Hello, I am trying to decide which rewards credit card I should use. There are a lot of different factors, and I’m having trouble coming up with an equation or deciding what is the best value for my dollar. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Card #1 – This is a gas station credit card that has a points based rewards system, I usually just save up my points to get a gift card to use on buying gas (since I’ll be buying it no matter what). 190,000 points = $200 gift card. You earn 40 points per dollar spent at the gas station, and 10 points per dollar spent anywhere else.
Card #2 – This is a credit card from a major bank. Earns 1% cash back on all purchases and 3% cash back on gas and groceries.
Which card is the better one to use?
-John

Is it wrong for me to return the necklace?
My ex gave me this necklace that I didn’t even like while we were dating. Now that I broke up with him I know I will never use it. The other day while shopping at Walmart I saw the exact necklace. I am pretty low on cash and was thinking about returning the necklace and getting a gift card to buy groceries. Is that wrong?
what to do with gift you don’t want?
My boss consistently gives me gift cards for restaurants that are usually 50-60 miles away from me. I have a feeling when he’s at the grocery store he just grabs gift cards and gives them out without thought if the person can use them.
I don’t want them and I don’t want to eat at these places. A lot of times I’ve given them away, used them if I go out of town and see the places, and a couple of them I let expire.
I hate to waste them but I work my butt off for him all year long. I’d like something I can use.
I’m not ungrateful, but his money is going to waste like this. So would it be wrong if I gave him the card back this year and said “I really appreciate this but we don’t have this restaurant on my side of town for 50 miles.”
Not only that, this years was for an ice cream shop. $50 worth of ice cream. I’m not driving 50,60 miles for ice cream from a chain. LOL. I’m sorry. I just don’t want this. I’d almost rather have nothing.
Would it be OK if I just gave it back??? I really don’t know what to do.
Thanks.
